Set alight

christmas-background-festival-candle_Gyv

It stands before me, dimly flickering –

A flame from a candle,

Lighting the baubles of our existence.

Bouncing, reflecting, echoing,

Creeping through the cracks,

The fault lines of our jars-of-clay weaknesses.

Light trying to escape its confines,

The parameters of what we do,

And what we aspire to.

But what if the wind blew?

What if the flame went out?

I do not want to face the darkness alone again.

Jesus, Light of the world,

Present at the creation of day and night,

Your light cannot be snuffed out:

You shine in our darkness,

You see through the shadows,

Blazing through the fog of confusion,

Illuminating pathways of disillusionment and doubt,

Igniting purpose, overturning chaos.

The struggle is over:

Darkness could never extinguish your light.
