Broken for me

"Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all." (Mark 6:41)

When we are at our lowest,

famished, not merely hungry,

parched, not just thirsty,

at out wits’ end,

not knowing which way to turn,

you make yourself known

(for you were always there)

and take the ordinary things of life

to lift up to God, our heavenly Father,

and bless them.

The everyday things – of ordinary food,

drink, routine, friendships and desires.

And after you have blessed them,

you break them,

not to destroy

but to be useful, handed out

to others at their lowest.

And the breaking and distribution

is not just a little – but a lot,

overflowing to excess,

abundant, far too much.

So your love pours out, gushing,

lavishly cascading upon us,

and generously meets our needs.
