The ordinary days

Lord, I’m not very good with boring,

mundane,

not very exciting,

unoriginal,

ordinary

days.

I don’t like knowing the hour

will be like the last one,

and the one after that will be the same too.

I seem to spend my life

with predictable days,

doing repetitive, boring thing

‒ even praying for mundane, ordinary things.

But I crave excitement and change,

A little newness,

Not knowing what is round the corner.

But I note you answer the boring prayers

about ordinary things,

and you challenge my trust in you,

almost daring me to see you at work

in the everyday occurrences

that neither startle nor scare.

And I remember how you took

ordinary, everyday items

like bread and water.

You multiplied the bread

to feed thousands,

and you turned the water into wine.

So, Lord, please take my dry bread

and dull, watery days;

take them and turn them

into something beautiful

and extra-ordinary for you.
